SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns sophomore Paul San posted his first career top 10 finish placing in a tie for sixth at the UTSA/Lone Star Invitational with a three-round score of 3-over par (219) on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,247-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Course.
Â
"Really impressed with the performance of Paul San posting his lowest round in his young career and finishing the tournament strong," head coach Theo Sliman said. "I give him a lot of credit because he was able to do so in very difficult conditions with a strong wind and fast greens. Hopefully he can carry this momentum into the next tournament and give us another consistent option in the lineup."
Â
Senior Haraldur Magnus posted his ninth top 25 performance of the season and fifth consecutive as he placed in a tie for 18th at 8-over (224). Magnus closed out the tournament with a 73 (+1) in the final round posting a bogey-free final eight holes with three birdies.
Â
"It was good to see Haddi (Haraldur) live up to our motto of finishing the final six hole of the round strong," Sliman said. "He's continuing to have a great senior campaign and if he can keep this up he should earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Hopefully he doesn't go on his own as we still have our goal of a Sun Belt championship in front of us."
Â
Fernando Cruz Valle was two strokes back of the top 25 finishing in a tie for 30th at 11-over (227).
Â
As a team, the Cajuns moved up three spots in the final round to finish in a tie for 12th at 57-over (921).
Â
No. 50 New Mexico hung on to win the team title with a 54-hole score of 13-over (877). Rice was the only team to post a team score under par of the day finishing in second at 19-over (883). North Texas (+26, 890), UTEP (+32, 896), UTSA (+34, 898) and Mississippi State (+34, 898) round out the top 5 teams.
Â
Ohio State's Tee-k Kelly was the wire-to-wire individual champion with a three-round score of 5-under (211).
Â
Louisiana returns to action April 4-5 at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship hosted at Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Miss.
