LAFAYETTE – Following a 3-1 week which included an extra-innings win over McNeese State and a road Sun Belt series victory at UT Arlington, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team remained in the Top 5 of both national polls which were released on Tuesday.

The Ragin' Cajuns (22-2, 4-1 Sun Belt) held on to the No. 5 spot in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll for the third straight week. Louisiana took hold of the spot back on March 8.

For the fourth straight week, the Ragin' Cajuns claimed the No. 5 billing in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 ranking, and also garnered a first-place vote. Louisiana first landed at No. 5 in the poll back on March 1.

Louisiana has now been ranked inside the Top 5 of both of the national polls three weeks running.

A fourth straight week in the Top 5 of the ESPN.com/USA Softball ties the school record for consecutive weeks with a Top 5 ranking for the Ragin' Cajuns, first established March 31-April 21 of 1999 in the NFCA poll.

The Ragin' Cajuns are joined in the Top 5 of this week's USA Today/NFCA poll by two SEC schools (Florida, Auburn), Michigan (Big 10) and Oregon (Pac 12).

In addition to Louisiana, the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 5 includes two SEC schools (Florida, Auburn), Michigan (Big 10) and Texas A&M (Big 12).

Only four weeks remain until the No. 5-ranked Ragin' Cajuns travel to Gainesville, Fla., to meet the nation's consensus No. 1, Florida (30-1), in a three-games series April 16-17.

Louisiana is a part of the Top 10 of the USA Today/NFCA ranking for 18th time in the past 21 polls and Top 10 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll for the 17th time in the past 21 polls, dating back to the start of the 2015 season.

The Ragin' Cajuns are the lone Sun Belt Conference school ranked in either of the Top 25 polls. UT Arlington (22-4, 1-2 Sun Belt) is receiving votes in in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.

The No. 5-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team continues an eight-game road trip that began last weekend in Arlington, Texas, by traveling to Troy, Ala., for a Sun Belt series with the Troy Trojans set for Friday-Saturday, March 25-26. Louisiana and Troy are scheduled to play a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and 12 p.m. single game on Saturday.
