Baudoin, Basic Pace Cajuns On First Day Of Texas Relays

Baudoin becomes fourth Cajun to clear 17 feet
AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman Kyle Baudoin recorded the fourth-best mark in school history in the men's pole vault while Bartul Basic earned a fifth-place finish in the javelin to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team on the first day of the 89th NIKE Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Action continues on Friday with Jasmin Fusilier and Kaitlyn Moreau scheduled to participate in the women's 100-meter hurdles, while Tyler Hughes (men's 110-meter hurdles), Hanoj Carter (men's 100-meter dash) and Franz Beyer (men's high jump) will also compete.
Baudoin, who joined Chris Roy (2008, 2010), current Ragin' Cajuns head coach Lon Badeaux (1996) and Michael Vani (2014) in clearing the 17-foot mark, was one of four athletes on the day to finish at 17-5 in the Section C finals. The freshman set his personal-best on his second attempt and finished tied with Virginia Tech's Brad Johnson, Texas Tech's Brandon Bray and Texas freshman Blake Scott.
Basic recorded a throw of 209-5 on his third of six attempts in the Section B final with teammate Cody Nickel finishing ninth overall after recording a season-best mark of 191-4.
Alena Hrusoci finished 34th for the Ragin' Cajuns in the women's 400-meter hurdles (1:01.92) with Morgan Cormier finishing 62nd in the men's 400-meter hurdles (1:03.35).
