Signing class increased to four with latest additions
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball coach Bob Marlin announced on Wednesday that P.J. Hardy and Justin Miller have each signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the 2016-17 season.
Â
The addition of Hardy (Lake Charles, La.) and Miller (Owensboro, Ky.) increases Louisiana's 2016-17 signing class to four following the addition of Roydell Brown (New Orleans, La.) and Herman Williams (Marianna, Fla.) during the early signing period.
Â
Hardy, a 6-foot-1 guard, averaged 22.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 6.0 steals as a senior at St. Louis Catholic where he was team captain and led the Saints to a 25-5 record, a pair of district championships and a pair of appearances in the LHSAA Boy's Top 28 Tournament.
Â
"P.J. is a true point guard with great speed," Marlin said. "He has a unique ability to penetrate and run a team. He comes from a great basketball family and our staff is excited about what the future holds for him here at UL."
Â
He earned District 4-3A MVP honors during his senior season and was named the Most Outstanding Player of Southwest Louisiana. Hardy, a four-year honor student, was also named to the Louisiana High School All-Star team.
Â
Miller, a 6-foot-7 forward, spent last season in prep school at 22 Feet (S.C.) Academy where he averaged 10.4 points and a team-high 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor and 71 percent from the free throw line.
Â
"Justin is a versatile forward who will bring an immediate low post presence," Marlin said. "He is extremely physical and knows how to score inside. He has shown a lot of self-discipline and has worked very hard in improving his body over the past year. We expect big things from him during his career as a Ragin' Cajun."
Â
Miller, who helped Owensboro High School to the 2015 Kentucky State Championship, was named the MVP of the state tournament after averaging 16.5 points, 8.7 rebounds and shooting 65 percent from the floor. Miller earned first-team all-district and all-region honors as a senior and was named second-team all-state.
Â
He helped OHS to a 31-4 record as a senior and competed in the Kentucky/Indiana All-Star Game.
