Cajuns Draw UTA In Sun Belt Conference Championships

Women to play Friday at 11:30; men to face off on Friday at 3 p.m.

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns tennis team will open play in the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Championships on Friday in New Orleans when both the men's and women's team will face UT Arlington in quarterfinals competition.
 
First serve for the women's match is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the City Park Tennis Center with the men's match slated for 3 p.m. at the UNO Tennis Courts.

The winner of Friday's match between Louisiana (11-9) and UTA (16-4), ranked No. 64 nationally in the latest Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings, will advance to the semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Ragin' Cajuns, who are the No. 6 seed in the 10-team event, has won their last three matches since dropping a 4-0 decision to the Mavs on March 26 at Cajun Courts.
 
Senior Melissa Burckhartt has posted an 11-9 record in singles play this season, including a 3-1 mark in SBC matches, to lead Louisiana with Kelly Drew and Alexandra Way following with nine wins each. Elena Sava and Abby Johnson have each earned eight wins in singles play for the Ragin' Cajuns with Dana Brankovic adding seven.
 
Burckhartt and Drew have posted a 10-3 record at No. 1 doubles for Louisiana while the tandem of Sava and Juliette Clement have posted a 10-4 record.
 
Agustina Serio has posted a team-best 23-6 record, including a 14-1 mark in dual matches, to lead UTA with Elizabeth Thoms and Angeles de los Rios each posting 18 wins. Jessica Birowski and Astrid Gehre have won a team-high 12 matches in doubles play on the season for the Mavs with Serio and Valeria Lopez finishing 11-2 overall, including a 10-2 record at No. 3 doubles.

1. Top 75 based on ITA rankings that are released the Monday prior to the Tournament. Teams with a top 75 ITA ranking are protected and their seeding will not be adjusted based on head to head conference matches.
2. Lowest cumulative ITA ranking of an institution's top three wins. Based on rankings that are released the Monday prior to the Tournament.
3. Once the remaining institutions are seeded based on the lowest cumulative ITA score of top three wins, beginning with the highest seeded team outside of the top 75 ITA and moving downward, institutions which are stacked will be moved up or down an unlimited number of times so long as stacked with an opponent to which there was head to head competition
