Golf Set To Tee Off At 2016 Sun Belt Championship

DESTIN, Fla. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team is set to tee off at the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Championship starting Sunday at the par-71, 6,887-yard Raven Golf Course.

"I'm very excited and anxious to get out on the course to play," head coach Theo Sliman said. "This very well could be the last time this team plays together this year. I hope that's not the case. All of our guys have had success on this course.

"With the change in format, our first goal is to be in the top four at the end of stroke play in order to have a shot to win the championship. The guys on the team got a great message of motivation from Scott Farmer reinforcing one of our mottos, which is that it's all about the team at the point in the season. Hopefully our guys can come out and be successful this week."

Play gets underway at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday with round one of the tournament. Teams will start off of holes one and ten for the three rounds of stroke play. Round two is slated for Monday at 7:30 a.m., while the third and final round of stroke play will get underway at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Following stroke play, the top four teams will advance to match play which will get underway on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. The top seed will face the fourth seed and start off of hole one, while the second seed will matchup with the third see and start on hole ten.

The two winning sides will square off in a championship match later that day with play getting started off of hole one.

Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Little Rock, Louisiana, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy, ULM and UT Arlington make up the 11-team field.

Haraldur Magnus, Fernando Cruz Valle, Ragnar Gardarsson, Paul San and Triston Elston make up the starting lineup for the Ragin' Cajuns. Magnus has posted a top 25 finish in all but two tournaments this season. The senior finished fourth at the SBC Fall Preview on the same course.

The Cajuns are paired with Arkansas State and Little Rock for the opening round and will start off of hole one with the first group starting at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring is available on GolfStat.com.
