Cajuns Close Out Regular Season This Weekend

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team looks to continue to improve on their conference tournament seeding as they play their final two regular season matches this weekend.

The Cajuns (15-10), who have won four of their last five matches, will face Southern Miss (14-7-1) in Hattiesburg on Friday (April 8) for a 2 p.m. first serve.

Louisiana is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Xavier (La.) last weekend in the home finale, posting wins of 4-0 and 4-2, and reaching its highest win total since 2014 (20).

Senior Edgar Lopez clinched the Ragin' Cajuns 4-2 victory in the nightcap and improved his overall record to a team-best 12-4 in singles play this season.

Freshman Arthur Libaud and junior Coleman Wahlborg have each won 10 matches in singles play this spring. Junior Eric Perez enters the weekend on a hot streak, having won his last four singles matchups.

The doubles duo of Perez and Lopez have proven to be a lethal combination, winning 15 of 21 doubles this season, including their last five overall. Libaud and junior Will Huyton have also tallied double-digit doubles wins with 10 this spring, with three straight wins to their credit. The duo has also won eight of their past 10 doubles matches.

Southern Miss enters the weekend with a five-match win streak and a record of 14-7-1 this season. The Golden Eagles are 5-2-1 on a neutral court this spring.

The team boasts five players with double-digit wins in singles. Chao-Yu Huang leads the Golden Eagles with 18 wins, followed by Mikhail Esipov with 14. Huang has won his last three singles outings. Brad Marriott and Tarun Surat are both tied with 12 singles wins.

Southern Miss is 51-32 in doubles this season, and is led by Huang and Wen-Po Tseng, who own a 15-9 record on the season.
