Ragin' Cajuns Add Southeastern Louisiana To 2017 Football Schedule

Cajuns to host in-state non-conference opponent for sixth straight year
LAFAYETTE – Director of Athletics Scott Farmer announced on Thursday that the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team will open the 2017 season against in-state opponent Southeastern Louisiana at Cajun Field.

The game between Louisiana and SLU, a Division I-FCS member of the Southland Conference, is scheduled for Sept. 2, 2017. The addition of SLU to the 2017 schedule will mark the sixth consecutive year the Ragin' Cajuns will host an in-state opponent in a non-conference game, and adds to a schedule that includes games at Tulsa (Sept. 9) and Texas A&M (Sept. 16).

"The ability to schedule in-state opponents for non-conference games at Cajun Field is something that has been key for us for the past few years as it helps create a great college football atmosphere for both fan bases," Farmer said. "Southeastern has done a tremendous job since re-instating their program (in 2003) and we look forward to an exciting start to the 2017 season."

The Ragin' Cajuns hold a 19-17-3 lead in the series that dates back to 1930. The schools, which last faced each other in 1981, played on an annual basis from 1948-70 when both schools were members of the defunct Gulf States Conference.

Louisiana will open the 2016 season on Sept. 3 against Boise State at Cajun Field before hosting McNeese State (Sept. 10) and South Alabama (Sept. 17) in the Sun Belt Conference opener.

Renewals for season tickets is currently underway and fans are encouraged to renew their tickets for the 2016 season by April 29.
