Cajuns Win Third Straight With Rally at Southern Miss

Louisiana wraps up regular season on Sunday at UNO
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Louisiana's Eric Perez recorded a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles and the Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team came back from a 2-0 deficit to claim a 4-2 win over Southern Miss on Friday at the USM Tennis Courts.
Louisiana (16-10), which won for the seventh time in its last nine matches, claimed three-set victories by Arthur Libaud and Edgar Lopez at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while Vlad Kramarov rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the first set to eventually earn a 7-5, 6-2 win over USM's Chao-Yu Huang at No. 3 singles.
"It was a great battle for us today as we won all of our three-set matches today in singles," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "The guys really looked strong in the third sets. It was a very good win for (Arthur) Libaud at No. 1 after being down a set and Edgar (Lopez) maintained his strong play this season with a big win at No. 2.
"I was proud of the way Vlad (Kramarov) came back after being down 5-2 in the first set and came back with five straight games. It was a big clinch for Eric (Perez) who came up big for us today on the key points."
Southern Miss (14-8) claimed the doubles point as Jorman Reyes and Rakshit Rishi earned a 7-6 (7-3) win over Kramarov and Michael Kritzinger at No. 3. The Golden Eagles claimed the final two doubles matches beginning at No. 2 with Huang and Wen-Po Tseng claiming a 6-4 win over Libaud and Coleman Wahlborg.
The Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead as Rishi posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kritzinger at No. 6 singles before Louisiana mounted its comeback.
Kramarov put the Ragin' Cajuns on the board with his come-from-behind win before Libaud would tie the match at 2-2 as he claimed a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Tarun Surat at No. 1 singles. Lopez gave Louisiana the lead after recording a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Tseng at No. 2 singles before Perez clinched the match with his victory over USM's Daniel Merker at No. 5.
Louisiana will wrap up the regular season on Sunday (April 10) when it travels to face New Orleans in a 2 p.m. match at the University Tennis Center.
