Davis, Wright Key Offense In Ragin' Cajuns Scrimmage

Cajuns open final week of spring drills on Tuesday
LAFAYETTE – Jordan Davis threw for a pair of touchdowns and added a rushing score while redshirt freshman Jordan Wright rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns held an approximate 100-play scrimmage on Saturday at Cajun Field.

The redshirt freshmen tandem of Chris Weaver and Gunner Hudspeth each tossed touchdown passes for the Ragin' Cajuns while Chris Collins caught a team-high five passes.

Davis finished 9-for-12 for 218 yards and threw back-to-back 70-yard TD passes to Ja'Marcus Bradley and Devin Scott. Davis, who added 55 yards on the ground on nine carries, rushed for a 4-yard TD run for Louisiana during red zone situations.

"I thought offensively, today was pretty clean, especially when Jordan (Davis) was in there," head coach Mark Hudspeth said. "I thought we executed well, we didn't make a lot of mistakes except for some false starts down in the red zone."

Weaver completed 5 of 12 passes for 93 yards and connected with Keenan Barnes for a 60-yard TD strike. Wright, looking to secure the No. 2 running back spot behind Elijah McGuire, capped off his day with a 34-yard TD run.

Mario Osborne and Tracy Walker each recorded sacks for the Ragin' Cajuns defense with T.J. Posey and Dominick Jones combining on a sack during third-down drills. Redshirt freshman Ethan Rose recovered a fumble for the Ragin' Cajuns during red zone drills.

"Defensively, we gave up some big plays and that was disappointing," Hudspeth said. "But they still came up and made some plays. It was sort of an up-and-down day for the defense."

Louisiana will begin its final week of spring drills when it returns to practice on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
