Cajuns, Texas State Meet for Championship Game Spot

MOBILE, Ala. – No. 9-ranked Ragin' Cajuns Softball will meet Texas State at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 13 in the winner's bracket final of the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Softball Tournament at Jaguar Field on the University of South Alabama campus.

The winner of the Cajuns-Bobcats matchup advances to Saturday's 1 p.m., championship game. The loser would have to turn around at play an elimination game at 5 p.m.

No. 9 Louisiana (41-7) used a 13-1 (5 inn.) win over Georgia State while Texas State (38-18) topped host-South Alabama 5-0 on Thursday to set up the matchup.

The game will be broadcast on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-AM in the Lafayette area with Steve Peloquin and Bobby Neveaux on the call. It will also be televised via internet stream on WatchESPN.com with links available at championship central on SunBeltSports.org.

The Ragin' Cajuns are seeking an appearance in the SBC Tournament championship game for the ninth straight season.

Friday's contest marks the first Sun Belt Tournament meeting between Louisiana and Texas State which joined the league in 2014.

The Ragin' Cajuns swept the season series from the Bobcats held April 2-3 in Lamson Park. Louisiana scored in four straight innings in building a 7-0 win in Game 1 of the Saturday doubleheader, then rallied with five runs in the sixth inning of Game 2 for a 5-2 triumph. Three solo home runs in the series finale were all the offense needed in helping Alex Stewart collect her second complete game shutout of the weekend.

Stewart pitched 14 innings of scoreless softball and held Texas State to just four hits in collecting two shutouts of the Bobcats in the Sun Belt series at Lamson Park.
