LAFAYETTE – No. 9-ranked Ragin' Cajuns Softball will attempt to advance to its fifth consecutive Super Regional when the squad faces No. 16 Texas A&M at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday in the championship game of the 2016 NCAA Softball Lafayette Regional at Lamson Park.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns (45-7) need only one victory to advance to next week's NCAA Super Regional round. The Aggies (39-19) would need two wins to advance out of the NCAA Lafayette Regional.
Â
The winner of Sunday's championship game action will advance to meet the winner on the NCAA Norman (Okla.) Regional which has Oklahoma in the driver's seat on Sunday.

Louisiana advanced to Sunday's championship game by defeating Texas 9-1 in the regional's winner's bracket final earlier in the day. Texas A&M secured its spot with a pair of elimination game wins over Boston University and Texas.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns and Aggies are meeting in the NCAA Tournament – and on Championship Sunday – for the first time since the 2010 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. The Ragin' Cajuns defeated the Aggies 5-0 in the opening round and 6-1 on Championship Sunday to secure a trip to the Los Angeles Super Regional at UCLA.
Â
Sunday's matchup between the two programs will be the first meeting at Lamson Park since April 29, 1995 (Cajuns swept a doubleheader 1-0, 11-0). The last NCAA postseason contest the program's played at Lamson Park was on May 18, 1990 – the very first NCAA postseason event held at the facility.
Â
Louisiana has won the last three NCAA Regionals contested at Lamson Park (2012, 2014, 2015). Last season, it was a winner-take-all triumph over Baylor that sent the squad on to the Auburn Super Regional.
