Cajuns Open Sun Belt Tournament Play on Thursday

LAFAYETTE – No. 9 Ragin' Cajuns Softball is scheduled to begin play in the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Thursday, May 12 at 10 a.m., at Jaguar Field on the University of South Alabama campus in Mobile, Ala.

The Sun Belt Conference office unveiled the official tournament schedule on Sunday following the completion of regular season play. The tournament is scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, May 11-14 with the winner claiming the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Â
Louisiana (40-7, 21-2 Sun Belt), conference champions and the tournament's No. 1 seed, earned a bye from opening day action on Wednesday, May 11.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns opponent for Thursday's contest will be determined by results on Wednesday. Possible opponents include Georgia State, Georgia Southern and ULM.

All games on Wednesday and Thursday will be streamed live on SunBeltSports.org. Friday's three games and the 1 p.m., championship game on Saturday will be televised live on ESPN3.

The SBC Tournament returns to Mobile, Ala., for the second time. Jaguar Field first hosted the event back in 2010 with Louisiana claiming the championship.

Louisiana has claimed the SBC Tournament title 12 times, the last championship coming in 2014 at Lamson Park. Â

The Ragin' Cajuns won each series with Sun Belt opponents this season, extending their school-and Sun Belt-record streak of consecutive conference series victories to 29 and claiming their 14th championship in 16 years since the league began competition in 2001.
