Ragin' Cajuns Picked To Finish In Fifth-Place Tie In SBC Preseason Poll

Louisiana opens season Sept. 3 against Boise State
NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team was picked to finish in a fifth-place tie as the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Football Coaches' Poll was released by the league office on Thursday.

Louisiana, which will open the season Sept. 3 at Cajun Field against Boise State, received 70 points in a poll by the league's 11 head coaches and finished tied with Troy. Appalachian State was picked to finish first in the preseason poll, recording five first-place votes and 114 points. Defending champion Arkansas State received five first-place votes and 110 points with Georgia Southern (98 points) receiving the final first-place vote.

Georgia State (73) was picked to finish fourth with Louisiana and Troy fifth. South Alabama (62) was picked sixth in the poll followed by Idaho (48), New Mexico State (37), Texas State (30) and ULM (14).

Louisiana, under sixth-year head coach Mark Hudspeth, will report for fall camp on Aug. 3 and will open the 2016 season with three consecutive home games beginning with Boise State followed by McNeese State (Sept. 10) and South Alabama (Sept. 17).
