Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball Unveils 2016 Schedule

LAFAYETTE - A total of 15 matches at Earl K. Long Gym, including the annual Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic, highlight the 2016 schedule for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns volleyball team which was released on Friday.

Louisiana is scheduled to compete in 31 matches overall – 15 non-conference contests and a 16-match Sun Belt Conference slate – during the 2016 season which marks the ninth season under the direction of head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot.

In addition to the Sawyer Camillo Classic, the Ragin' Cajuns are scheduled to compete in pre-conference tournaments at Houston Baptist (Aug. 26-27), North Texas (Sept. 9-10) and UAB (Sept. 16-17).

Mid-week matchups are scheduled with three in-state schools – each one at Earl K. Long Gym. The Ragin' Cajuns have home dates with Northwestern State (Aug. 30), McNeese State (Sept. 6) and Southeastern Louisiana (Oct. 5).

Sun Belt Conference play begins at Earl K. Long Gym Sept. 23-24 with a homestand against the Georgia schools. The Sun Belt Conference Championship is scheduled for Nov. 17-19 at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas on the campus of UT Arlington.

The first official serve of the 2016 season takes place at the Marriott Houston WestChase Invitational hosted by Houston Baptist. The Ragin' Cajuns open tournament play against Houston at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26. The next afternoon, Louisiana meets host-HBU and Weber State to close out the season-opening weekend.

The home slate gets underway with a five-match homestand over a one-week period, beginning Tuesday, Aug. 30 vs. Northwestern State. The Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic follows (Sept. 2-3) the NSU contest, and the homestand concludes on Tuesday, Sept. 6 vs. McNeese State.

This season's Sawyer Camillo Classic features the Ragin' Cajuns, Air Force, Alabama A&M and Nicholls State.

After closing out pre-conference tournament action with trips to Denton, Texas (North Texas) and Birmingham, Ala. (UAB), the Ragin' Cajuns welcome Georgia State on Friday, Sept. 23 and Georgia Southern on Saturday, Sept. 24 during the opening weekend of Sun Belt play.

The first road trip in SBC play comes the next weekend with matches at Little Rock (Sept. 30) and Arkansas State (Oct. 1).

In October, the Ragin' Cajuns have both a four-match homestand (Oct. 5-16) and four-match road swing (Oct. 21-29).

The Ragin' Cajuns will enjoy the comforts of home in November, as four of the season's final five SBC matches are at Earl K. Long Gym and the lone road contest takes place in Monroe.

As the race for a spot in the SBC Championship comes to a close, Louisiana hosts matches against Troy (Nov. 4) and South Alabama (Nov. 6), travels to ULM (Nov. 8) and returns to Earl K. Long Gym to conclude the regular season Nov. 11-12 against UT Arlington and Texas State.
