HOUSTON – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball was involved in a hard-fought battle once again at the Marriott Houston Westchase Classic at Sharp Gym, but came up short in matches with Houston Baptist and Weber State on Saturday.
HBU erased a 2-0 deficit and stole a 3-2 (19-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16, 15-12) win over the Ragin' Cajuns. The Huskies hit above .300 over the final three sets, triggering the comeback.
Weber State fought off Louisiana in a 3-1 (27-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-18) win in the tournament finale for both squads. The Ragin' Cajuns and Wildcats battled through 41 ties and 13 lead changes.
Over the three matches that the Ragin' Cajuns participated in at the Marriott Houston Westchase Classic, there were a combined 104 ties and 42 lead changes over 13 sets contested.

The junior outside hitter generated a career-high 24 kills vs. Houston Baptist, then threw down 19 more kills vs. Weber State. Reilly concluded the day with 43 kills over nine sets (4.78 kills/set) and was awarded all-tournament honors.
Senior middle blocker Chanelle Gardner picked up seven more blocks, increasing her career total to 298. She's now two blocks shy of becoming only the second Ragin' Cajun to reach 300 career blocks since the rally scoring era began in 2001.
The Ragin' Cajuns make their 2016 season home debut on Tuesday, Aug. 30 vs. Northwestern State at 6:30 p.m. inside Earl K. Long Gym. The match vs. NSU begins a five-match homestand that also includes the Sawyer Camillo Classic (Sept. 2-3) and a midweek contest with McNeese State (Sept. 6).
Louisiana vs. Houston Baptist
The Ragin' Cajuns took the lead for good early in the first set, claiming a 6-3 lead following a kill by Hanna Rovira and back-to-back aces served up by Chole Cordell. HBU would trim the lead to 6-5, but Reilly posted consecutive kills to extend the lead out to three points which was the slimmest margin the remainder of the set.
Reilly paced the Ragin' Cajuns with six kills in the opener. As a team, Louisiana needed just 30 swings for its 15 kills and hit .267.
The path to a 2-0 lead in the match was paved by a 4-0 run that vaulted Louisiana into a 10-7 lead in the second set. The Ragin' Cajuns wouldn't relinquish the lead despite the Huskies cutting the lead to one point four times down the stretch, the last time at 21-20.
A kill and subsequent ace by Cordell extended the Ragin' Cajuns lead to 23-20. After an HBU point, Reilly landed her fifth kill of the set and Gardner landed set point with an ace.

Louisiana collected a sideout when Fuchs committed a service error, but the momentum swung back to HBU after Rovira committed a service error. Bailey Banks followed with a kill for the Huskies which built enough cushion to clinch the set and extend the match.
Louisiana vs. Weber State
Weber State fired off a .343 hitting percentage which helped the Wildcats sneak by the Ragin' Cajuns 27-25 in the opening set. Louisiana held a 17-16 edge in kills.

The Ragin' Cajuns offense kept the pressure on in the second set, hitting .242 and posting a 14-13 advantage in kills. WSU took hold a 5-2 lead, but Louisiana rallied with a kill (Reilly), ace (Reilly) and block (Antoine, Bartczyszyn) to draw a tie and neither team led by more than three points the rest of the frame
