Cajuns Continue Play At John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team saw success in doubles play at the 2016 John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic on Friday at the Culotta Tennis Center.

After failing to produce a win in singles play, the Cajuns doubles team of Coleman Wahlborg and Eric Perez defeated Oklahoma State's Tristan Meraut and Lukas Finzelberg (7-5, 6-3).

Texas Tech's Alex Sendegeya and Bjorn Thompson knocked off Wahlborg and Perez in the quarterfinals (6-3, 6-4).

Louisiana's double team of Silvio Cocito-Monoc and Jamie Fraser advanced to the quarterfinals on a walkover. Southern California's Jack Jaede and Thibault Forget defeated Cocito-Monico and Fraser (6-1, 6-3).

In the singles tournament, top-seeded William Bushamuka (Kentucky) defeated Jaede (6-4, 6-3) to advance to Saturday's semifinals. Bushamuka will face Finzelberg, who defeated Forget (6-3, 7-5).

In the other half of the draw, Harrison Scott (Texas) defeated Sendegeya (6-4, 6-4). Scott will face Thompson, who knocked off Colin Markes (Texas) (4-6, 6-3, 6-3).

Action resumes on Saturday at noon with the semifinals of championship singles and the consolation bracket. The third day of the four-day, eight-team event will see the semifinals of doubles play that begins at 2:30 p.m.
Admission is free and open to the public. Free spectator parking is available next to Cajun Field (West Lots A-B).
