Hot-Shooting Panthers Defeat Cajuns In SBC Hoops, 101-86

Washington records 15th double-double of the season with 18 points, 10 boards
LAFAYETTE – Isaiah Williams and D'Marcus Simonds each scored a game-high 24 points and Georgia State shot a blistering 62 percent from the floor in defeating the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 101-86, in a Sun Belt Conference men's basketball game on Monday at the Cajundome.
Jeremy Hollowell added 19 points and Devin Mitchell 11 as Georgia State (10-7, 3-2 SBC) went 36-for-58 (62.1 percent) from the floor and 10 of 19 (52.6 percent) from behind the 3-point line for the game.
The Panthers, who shot 17-for-28 from the floor (60.7 percent) and 8-for-12 from behind the 3-point arc in the first half, never trailed as a three-point play by Hollowell gave GSU an 8-7 lead with 17:38 remaining in the first half.
Louisiana (12-6, 2-3 SBC) closed to within 23-21 on a pair of Jerekius Davis free throws with 10:31 remaining in the half, but Georgia State would score the next eight points to push the lead to 31-21 as Mitchell drained a pair of 3-pointers and Willie Clayton sank a pair of free throws.
Jeff Thomas sank a 3-pointer as the first-half buzzer sounded, giving Georgia State a 53-42 lead at halftime before the Panthers pushed their lead to 68-48 when Hollowell converted on a three-point play with 14:24 left.
The Ragin' Cajuns battled back, getting as close as 78-67 on a Johnathan Stove layup with 8:52 remaining, but Simonds scored on a layup and added a dunk before a bucket by Williams gave Georgia State an 84-67 lead with 7:40 remaining.
Louisiana finished 22-for-58 (37.9 percent) from the floor and 36-for-42 (85.7 percent) from the free throw line.
Frank Bartley scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Ragin' Cajuns while Bryce Washington added 18 points and 10 rebounds to notch his 15th double-double of the season. Stove added 17 points and two blocks for the Ragin' Cajuns with Davis scoring a career-high 15 points and grabbing a career-high tying eight rebounds.
Louisiana will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 21) when it visits Texas State in a 4:30 p.m. contest in San Marcos, Texas.
