Cajuns Fall To Texas State In SBC Action, 62-40

San Marcos, Texas – Taeler Deer scored 22 points and Toshua Leavitt added 11 points to lead Texas State to a 62-40 win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team on Saturday.
Louisiana (10-6, 4-3 SBC) jumped out to an early 7-2 lead when Jaylyn Gordon knocked down a three-pointer with 4:16 left in the first quarter.
The Cajuns extended their lead to 11-3 after Simone Fields connected on a jumper with 2:46 to go in the period. Gordon made a jumper to give Louisiana a 13-5 lead at the end of the first frame.
Texas State (9-9, 4-3 SBC) trailed 15-5 before the Bobcats went on a 14-0 run to take a 19-15 lead when Deer knocked down a jumper with 2:59 left in the second quarter.
The Bobcats led 19-17 at halftime and kept up the tempo in the second half when Ti'Aira Pitts connected on a jumper to put Texas State in front 28-21 with 6:18 left in the third period.
Deer made a layup at the buzzer to give the Bobcats a 45-29 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Louisiana trimmed the lead to 52-39 when Fields made a layup with 3:53 left in the game.
Texas State was able to pull away in the closing minutes behind solid shooting from Deer, De'Jionae Calloway and Leavitt.
The Bobcats shot 24-for-63 (.381) from the floor and 7-for-25 (.280) from the three-point line while the Cajuns were 16-for-61 (.262) from the floor and 3-for-18 (.167) from the three-point line.
Fields led the Louisiana with 13 points while Gordon had 12 points for the Cajuns.
Louisiana will return to action when it hosts Arkansas State on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. The Cajuns will host Little Rock on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 5 p.m.
