Ragin’ Cajuns Baseball Holds First Full-Squad Practice

LAFAYETTE, La. – The 13th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team held its first full-squad practice on Friday as the team continued preparations for the 2017 season opener.
"Even though we still have a ways to go to be ready for opening day, I feel like we are where we need to be to get there," head coach Tony Robichaux. "I'm liking what I see from our guys offensively, and as a pitching staff we are slowly progressing to where will be able to face live hitters. These next couple weeks are very crucial for us to start to shape up our lineup come our first game. Overall I am very pleased with the work that the guys put in during the break and it has shown the first couple weeks of practice."
The Cajuns open the season on Feb. 17 against Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, La., while the first home game at Russo Park is slated for March 3 against Southern Miss.
Louisiana recently received its fifth preseason ranking of 2017 coming in at No. 16 in the USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll. The Cajuns are ranked 13th by D1Baseball, Baseball America and Perfect Game and are also 14th in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll.
Due to construction, the annual Ragin' Cajuns baseball fan day will not be held this year. Season Tickets are now on sale to the general public. Fans can order season tickets one of three ways; in person at the Cajundome Box Office between 10 am – 4 pm on weekdays, online at RaginCajuns.com or over the phone at (337) 265-2357.
"I can't say enough about our fan base and how they show their support as we were able to sell out season tickets a year ago," Robichaux said. "One of the major reasons the renovation to Russo Park was possible was because of the support our fans show with the number of season tickets purchase every year. It shows in the fact that we are ranked among the best in the nation in fan attendance. I can't thank our fans enough for their commitment to us even in these tough economic times."
