Cajuns Open Indoor Season On Friday At LSU Purple Tiger

First of six indoor meets for Louisiana

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns indoor track and field team officially opens the 2017 season on Friday when it heads east to compete in the LSU Purple Tiger at the Carl Maddox Field House on the LSU campus.
 
The morning session gets underway with early field events at 10:30 a.m., followed by the first preliminary races on the track beginning at 12:30 p.m. The first finals on the track start at 1:35 p.m., as action continues through the running of the distance medley relays beginning at 5:40 p.m.
 
Joining Louisiana and host LSU in the 15-team field includes in-state programs McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern and Tulane. Rounding out the field are Alcorn State, Hinds Community College, Meridian Community College, North Texas, Texas Southern and Texas State.

A pair of 2016 All-Sun Belt Conference indoor selections - Tristan Whitehall, the 2016 SBC men's indoor shot put champion and third-team All-SBC performer (60-meter hurdles) Tyler Hughes – each return for Louisiana with distance runners Christian Bergeron, Stanley Limoh, Matt Rice and Beau Robinson looking to build off All-Conference performances in cross country.
 
Ricky Theyard (triple jump), Kyle Baudoin (pole vault), Richard Delphin (weight throw) and Matt Wilson (pole vault) are expected to pace the Ragin' Cajuns in field events in the opening meet.
 
Courtney Musgrove, who earned All-SBC honors in cross country, will look to pace a young Ragin' Cajuns squad in distance events during the indoor season with Taylor Walker (triple jump), Hannah Siegmund (sprints), Lindsey LaGarde (distance) Meredith Driskell (pole vault), Tamela Young (weight throw), Amie Leitko (weight throw) and Dajah Guidry (sprints) expected to make key impacts during the season.
 
The meet is the first of six for Louisiana during the indoor season, that concludes with the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Feb. 20-21 in Birmingham, Ala.
