Cajuns Head To Auburn For ITA Southern Regionals

LAFAYETTE – This weekend the Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team will take part in the ITA Regional Championships at Auburn, Ala., which starts on Friday, Oct. 20 and will finish up on Monday, Oct. 23.

The Cajuns are one of 16 schools attending the tournament and representing Louisiana during the weekend is senior Kelly Drew along with freshmen Floriane Picaut and Dana Radovanovic, making up three Cajuns women who'll compete over the weekend.

The tournament will consist of two draws of singles, with the singles slated to start at 9 a.m. on Friday, and a doubles draw, which will start before the singles beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday.

WHO THE RAGIN' CAJUNS ARE FACING: Drew, who's the highest seeded Cajuns woman in the singles main draw, will take on UAB's Alexandra Shchipakina in the first round of singles. Joining Drew in the main draw is Picaut who's matched up with Mississippi State's Sara Lizariturry.

As for Radovanovic, the freshman is taking part in the B draw portion of singles and her first-round matchup is with ULM's Flrence Salerno.

In doubles the powerful duo or Picaut and Radovanovic will take part in the doubles competition and their first-round matchup will be with Samford's Holly Horsfall and Elsa Pool.

WHAT THE WEEKEND LOOKS LIKE: The first three days will start at 8 a.m., with doubles kicking each day's competition. Singles will follow the doubles matches with each bracket being played through.

The expectation of the rule is on Monday, when the day will start at 9 a.m., and the doubles finals will be played. If there isn't a conflict of one of the women involved with doubles playing in the finals then the singles finals will be played at that point as well.
