Award established by 1A Faculty Athletics Representatives to recognize student-athlete achievement
NEW ORLEANS - The 1A Faculty Athletics Representatives Association has named its recipients of the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Awards, and over 50 Sun Belt Conference graduates, including four Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns student-athletes, were among the more than 600 Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) student-athletes that received the honor.
Â
The award was established by the 1A Faculty Athletics Representatives to recognize student-athlete academic achievement.
Â
Lindsay Brammer (women's soccer), Trey Granier (football), Claire Hodges (women's track and field/cross country) and Kassidy Zeringue (softball) were among a group of 52 student-athletes from Sun Belt Conference schools named to the list.
Â
"On behalf of the Sun Belt Conference and its 12 outstanding universities, I would like to congratulate these student-athletes on their academic achievements and accomplishments – both on the fields and courts of competition and more importantly in the classroom. These student-athletes exemplify the wide majority of all the student-athletes who participate in sports and under the Sun Belt umbrella," said Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson.
Â
Recipients must have graduated in the past academic year with at least a 3.80 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics at an FBS institution in a sport sponsored by an FBS conference.
Â
"Please join me in congratulating these outstanding student-athletes at our member institutions, who have excelled not only in their sport but also in the classroom. They set a strong example for the many student-athletes in the Sun Belt Conference who study and compete at our member institutions, and are a model for what higher education is all about," said Alan Hauser, Sun Belt Conference 1A FAR liaison from Appalachian State.
Â
