Ragin' Cajuns Head To Samford For Final Tuneup Prior To SBC Championships

First of two meets for Louisiana at Birmingham Crossplex

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team preps for its final tuneup before the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships later this month when it returns to action on Friday in the Samford Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

The meet starts at 9 a.m. with the women's weight throw with running events scheduled for 11. Live stats will be available at RaginCajuns.com. Louisiana is joined in the 15-team event by host Samford, Sun Belt Conference schools Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern and South Alabama, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Florida A&M, Furman, Indiana State, North Florida, Southern Miss, Tulane, UAB and Western Carolina.

Louisiana makes the first of two trips to the Magic City this month as the Ragin' Cajuns will compete at the SBC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 20-21. The Ragin' Cajuns return to action after competing at the LSU Bayou Bengal last week in Baton Rouge as Kyle Baudoin, Tristan Whitehall and Lindsay LaGarde each recorded key performances.

Baudoin, ranked third among SBC athletes in the men's pole vault, has posted a season-high mark of 16-9 1/4 with Whitehall ranked fourth in the men's shot put (56-6). Hanoj Carter, ranked second in the men's 200-meters, will repeat on his 2016 performance in Birmingham when he clocked a school-record time of 21.10 at the SBC Indoor Championships. Matt Rice and Stanley Limoh, ranked third and fourth in the men's 3,000-meter run, will each compete in the 1-mile run for Louisiana and will be joined in the event by Beau Robinson and Christian Bergeron.

Damon Guidry, Franz Beyer and Angus Sinclair enter the meet for Louisiana ranked among the top-6 SBC athletes in the men's high jump with Ricky Theyard ranked fourth in the triple jump and Richard Delphin fourth in the weight throw.

LaGarde, who will be joined by Hailey Hesterman and Courtney Musgrove in the women's 1-mile run, is ranked among the top SBC athletes in the 800-meters and 3,000-meters. Taylor Walker enters the meet for Louisiana ranked fifth in the triple jump with Meredith Driskell seventh in the pole vault.
