Ragin' Cajuns Begin Competition Monday At SBC Indoor Championships

Two-day event begins at 9 a.m.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns indoor track and field team will look to secure a conference title when it begins competition on Monday in the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
 
The championship will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday with the combined events, beginning with both the heptathlon. Field events begin at 10 a.m.  with running events starting at 4:15 p.m.
 
Tuesday will see the rest of the heptathlon events at 9 a.m. followed by pentathlon at 9:20 a.m. Field events begin at 12:00 p.m. with the final running events starting at 12:30 p.m. and the awards presentation at approximately 4:30 p.m.
 
Defending 200-meter champion Hanoj Carter, who set a school-record (21.10) at last year's meet, enters the SBC indoor meet ranked second overall in the Sun Belt Conference. Stanley Limoh and Matt Rice ranked first and second, respectively, in the men's 1-mile run with Beau Robinson ranked second in the men's 5,000-meter run.
 
Rice and Limoh posted the fourth and fifth-best times in the men's 3,000-meters among SBC athletes this season with the men's distance medley relay team posting the fastest time (10:16.23) in the SBC.
 
In field events, high jumpers Dionte Heath and Damon Guidry posted the second-best marks in the SBC during the indoor season. Kyle Baudoin posted the third-best mark in the pole vault for Louisiana with Tristan Whitehall (shot put), Richard Delphin (weight throw) and Ricky Theyard (triple jump) ranked in the top-five in the SBC.
 
Meredith Driskell enters the SBC Championships ranked fourth in the women's pole vault for Louisiana with Taylor Walker (triple jump) ranked seventh and Tamela Young (shot put) 11th.
 
Lindsay LaGarde has been the top runner for the Ragin' Cajuns on the women's side, posting top-10 marks in both the 1-mile run and 3,000-meter run.
 
Texas State claimed the men's team title in 2016 with 127.5 points while Appalachian State earned the women's team title with 101.5 points.
