Sinclair, Beyer 1-2 In Heptathlon; Cajuns In Fourth Place At SBC Indoor

Baudoin, Limoh earn all-SBC honors; LaGarde paces women in 3,000 meters

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Angus Sinclair and Franz Beyer finished the first day of the men's heptathlon in the top two spots and Kyle Baudoin and Stanley Limoh each earned all-conference honors in their respective events to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns indoor track and field team after the first day of the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Monday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
 
Louisiana finished the first day of the two-day event in fourth place on the men's side with 27 points, trailing UT Arlington (29.5), Arkansas State (29) and South Alabama (29). The Ragin' Cajuns women's team, highlighted by a fifth-place finish by Lindsay LaGarde in the 3,000-meter run, finished the first day in eighth place in the team standings.
 
Final day action will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday with the final three events of the men's heptathlon before competition in the women's indoor pentathlon begins at 9:20. Field events begin at noon with the finals of the men's triple jump with the women's 1-mile final slated to begin at 12:30. Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com.
 
Sinclair, who finished fifth in the heptathlon at last year's SBC Indoor Championships, scored a total of 2,966 points during the first four events to claim the first-day lead with Beyer, the 2016 runner-up in the heptathlon, second with 2,939 points.
 
Baudoin claimed all-SBC honors for Louisiana in the men's pole vault for the second consecutive year after finishing second overall. The sophomore, who finished second at last year's meet, cleared the bar at an indoor best 16-11 ½.
 
Louisiana earned nine points in the men's weight throw as Richard Delphin (58-1 ¼) finished fourth overall with Tristan Whitehall fifth (57-7 ½). The Ragin' Cajuns also received points in the men's long jump as Ricky Theyard recorded a distance of 23-3 ¼ to finish fifth overall.
 
Limoh, competing in his first SBC championship, claimed all-SBC honors after clocking a time of 8:20.46 in the men's 3,000-meter run to finish third overall. Sprinter Hanoj Carter qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash (6.80) before posting the top time (21.23) in the 200-meters to qualify for Tuesday's final.
 
LaGarde posted a time of 10:07.14 in the women's 3,000-meter run to finish fifth overall for Louisiana while the women's distance medley relay team earn a point after finishing eighth overall (12:46.58).  
 
Taylor Walker earned a 12th-place finish in the women's long jump after posting a mark of 18-8 while Amie Leitko finished 13th overall (54-0) in the women's weight throw.
