LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team is set to host the 32nd annual Louisiana Classics at the par-72, 7,098-yard Oakbourne Country Club starting Monday.

"Very excited to get underway with the 32nd annual Louisiana Classics," head coach Theo Sliman said. "This is a prestigious event, and it's a testament to the previous 31 years and everyone who has made it what it is. The people here in south Louisiana and the members of Oakbourne Country Club have really opened themselves up to not only our program, but also the other 14 teams in this field. To host four teams in the top 25 speaks to the kind of reputation this event has."

Play gets underway at 8 a.m. Monday with a shotgun start. The second round is slated to follow immediately following the completion of the first round. The third and final round is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday with play starting off of holes one and ten.

Admission to the event is free both days. For the fourth year, the Louisiana Classics will be streamed live on RaginCajuns.com All-Access with Dan McDonald and Gerald Broussard providing commentary. The stream is free to watch and starts at 8 a.m. on Monday and 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Louisiana Classics will feature four teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 25 with No. 2 Illinois, No. 5 LSU, No. 22 Texas A&M, No. 23 Kent State joining host Louisiana, Toledo, UTSA, Texas State, Sam Houston State, Southern Miss, Southeastern Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, UT Arlington, UMKC and Southern Illinois in the 15-team field.

Illinois has won the team championship the last four years after edging Kansas by a stroke at the 31st annual Louisiana Classics.

Senior Fernando Cruz Valle paces the Cajuns starting lineup with a 73.53 scoring average this season. Cruz Valle is coming off of a third place finish at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate a week ago.

Freshman Aron Juliusson is second on the squad with a 73.93 average through 15 rounds. Both Cruz Valle and Juliusson are joined by Thomas Standemo, Triston Elston and Jack Tolson in the starting lineup.

"I am anxious to see our team compete after a bit of slap in the face a week ago aside form Fernando," Sliman said. "We have some youngsters in the lineup this week and I would like to see them rise up to the occasion. We have a good group of seniors who will walk this course for the last time in their career and it will be an emotional week for them."

Ragnar Gardarsson, Ryan Desormeaux and Grant Welch will compete as individuals at the Louisiana Classics.

"This is the first year that we have seen the Vermillion Links board put on this tournament," Sliman said. "We couldn't put on a first class event without their help. I would really like to thank David Church, Matt Smith, Jeff D'Amico, Paul Jones, John Mendel and Ryan Hagle for all that they do to make sure that this event is a success."

Live scoring for the event is available on both the Louisiana Classics Tournament Central page on RaginCajuns.com and on Golfstat.
