Libaud, Fraser improve to 10-1 in doubles play with 10th straight win

EDINBURG, Texas – The tandem of Arthur Libaud and Jamie Fraser recorded their 10th straight victory in doubles play while the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team claimed five of six singles matches to record a 6-1 win over UT Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday at the Orville I. Cox Tennis Center.

Louisiana (10-4), which will compete in the 51st annual H-E-B Tournament of Champions beginning Friday in Corpus Christi, Texas, clinched the doubles point over UTRGV (2-10) as Libaud and Fraser improved to 10-1 in dual matches with a 6-4 win over Koby Jansen and Mateo Schmit at No. 1. Fraser, who improved to 6-2 in singles play, clinched the match for the Ragin' Cajuns with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Clement Sarradin at No. 4 singles.

Libaud won his team-high ninth match of the season for Louisiana after defeating Jansen at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-3. The Ragin' Cajuns also got straight-set victories in singles play from Coleman Wahlborg and Elio Lago with Vlad Kramarov posting a 7-6 (1), 5-7, 10-6 win over Yehonatan Kaufman at No. 3.

"This was a good prelude to the H-E-B with similar conditions which I think will help us Friday when we open play," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "It was another good day for Arthur Libaud, even he didn't have his best stuff, but he fought really hard.

"Our No. 5 and 6 players were off the court quickly which helped our top four spots. Pearse (Dolan) is far away from his best stuff. He is a work in progress, but he really battled today which was good."

Wahlborg, who teamed with Eric Perez for a 6-3 win over UTRGV's Elliot Johnstone and Andres Hernandez at No. 2 doubles, gave Louisiana a 2-0 lead after beating Hernandez, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles while Lago followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Schmit at No. 6.

Louisiana begins opening round play begins on Friday with competition taking place at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center, as well as the H-E-B Tennis Center. The finals will be played on Saturday. Louisiana and host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will be joined by Arizona, UTRGV, UTSA, DePaul, South Alabama and New Mexico State.
