Delabarre earns first career collegiate dual match victory for Cajuns
MOBILE, Ala. – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis freshman Lucile Delabarre posted her first career dual match victory at the collegiate level, but South Alabama claimed the doubles point along with five of six singles matches in a 6-1 win on Sunday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Louisiana (1-1), playing without two key members from the fall campaign, dropped a pair of 6-0 decisions at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles before Alina Zolotareva gave South Alabama (2-1) a 2-0 lead with a win at No. 6 singles.
Alexandria Stitler claimed a 6-4, 6-0 win for South Alabama over Alexandra Way win at No. 1 singles before Laura Valkova clinched the match defeating Louisiana's Kelly Drew in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. After the Jaguars claimed wins at both No. 5 and No. 4 singles, Delabarre earned a 6-3, 7-5 victory over USA's Monica Mitta at No. 2 singles.
Louisiana will return to action on Thursday when it visits Northwestern State in a 12:30 p.m., at the Jack Fisher Lady Demon Complex. The match against Northwestern State is the first of three straight matches on the road in a three-day period that includes contests at Southern Miss (Feb. 10) and No. 24-ranked Mississippi State (Feb. 11).
