Louisiana heads east to face Southern Miss, Mississippi State in dual matches
NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State claimed the doubles point, earning victories at Courts No. 2 and 3 before picking up three wins in singles play to defeat the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team, 4-0, on Thursday at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
Kelly Drew and Abby Johnson each claimed the opening set in their singles matches for Louisiana (1-2), which was playing the first of three straight road matches in as many days.
Northwestern State (1-3) took the doubles point as Emilija Dancetovic and Polina Ivanova earned a 6-2 win over Johnson and Alexandra Way at No. 2. The Demons took the opening match in doubles as Vladislava Litvinova and Kateryna Avram defeated Carla Ortega and India Shiaelis, 6-1, at No. 3.
Ivanova earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Way at No. 1 singles, giving the Demons a 2-0 lead, before Iryna Vardanian earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Lucile Delabarre at No. 2. Litvinova clinched the match for Northwestern State after claiming a 6-1, 6-2 win over Shiaelis at No. 5.
Louisiana will visit Southern Miss on Friday at 11 a.m. before facing No. 24-ranked Mississippi State on Saturday at 11 a.m.
