Cajuns Baseball Blanks Saint Peter’s To Sweep Series

3/12/2017 6:05:00 PM | Baseball

LAFAYETTE, La. – The 15th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team posted its second shutout of the weekend as the Cajuns blanked Saint Peter's 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park to complete the series sweep.

The victory moves the Raign' Cajuns to 9-4 on the year, while the Peacocks fall to 0-4. The series sweep is the first of the year for Louisiana who has won all three of its series in 2017.

Sophomore Hogan Harris picked up his first victory of the season in his weekend debut tossing five scoreless innings with two hits, three walks and five strikeouts.

Jevin Huval, Colton Lee, Jack Burk and Dylan Moore combined to throw four hitless innings to close out the contest with Lee and Moore each tallying three strikeouts.

Saint Peter's starter Kevin Soriano took the loss giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits with a strikeout in 3.1 innings of work.

Senior third baseman Joe Robbins led the Cajuns offensively going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while first baseman Alex Pinero extended his hit streak to 11 games with a single in the eighth inning.

Louisiana scored the only runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. With runners on first and second with no outs, right fielder Steven Sensley drove a double into the gap in right center to score designated hitter Todd Lott and give the Ragin' Cajuns a 1-0 lead. In the next at bat, Robbins hammered a 1-2 pitch from Soriano over the left field fence to make the score 4-0 Cajuns.

The Cajuns limited Saint Peter's to one runner in the final five frames as Louisiana picked up its fourth shutout of the year.

The Ragin' Cajuns return to action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. as the squad heads to Ruston, La. to face in-state rival Louisiana Tech. Fans can listen to the contest on ESPN 1420-AM.
