LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team will get to take advantage of being at home for the first time this season as it hosts the annual Louisiana Classics beginning Friday at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex.

The two-day meet will begin at 3 p.m., on Friday with action in the women's pole vault, the women's javelin throw and the men's hammer throw. Running events start at 6:30 p.m., with the women's 200-meter dash with the men's 10,000-meter run set for 8 p.m.

Competition continues on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. with field events before running events start at 2 p.m. Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com. A live video stream (Free) is also available at RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana will be joined in the 13-team meet by LSU, Southern, ULM, McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana, Tulane, Nicholls State (women), Louisiana College, Loyola, Louisiana Tech, Jackson State and Southern Arkansas.

"We're just happy to be home," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "This is a big event for us every year. It's exciting to be (competing) in front of our own fans and the kids get to sleep in their own bed. We're still early in the season, so when you look at it on the track it won't be spectacular. We're still resting a few people who were injured from indoor. But you're going to get a little bit more of a taste of what kind of team we are outdoors."

Early in the season, Louisiana's Bartul Basic (men's javelin), Matt Wilson (men's pole vault) and Jacob Chicola (men's 1,500-meter run) has posted top marks among Sun Belt Conference athletes with Damon Guidry (men's high jump), Hunter Stelly (men's javelin) and Kyle Baudoin (men's pole vault) ranked second in the league.

Freshman Claire Meyers, who made her debut last week at the McNeese Cowboy Relays, is ranked third overall among SBC athletes in the women's javelin with Taylor Walker (women's triple jump) and Meredith Driskell (women's pole vault) ranked fourth.

Hailey Hesterman, who is scheduled to compete in the women's 1,500-meter run, is ranked fourth overall in the SBC with the women's 4x100-meter relay team ranked fourth.
