Strong Performances Help Lead Cajuns At Louisiana Classics

Three first-place finishes along with three top SBC marks recorded in two-day meet
LAFAYETTE – Stanley Limoh, Beau Robinson and Dionte Heath each recorded first-place finishes in their respective events while Matt Rice posted the fastest time among Sun Belt Conference athletes in the men's 800-meter dash to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team on Saturday during the final day of the Louisiana Classics at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex.
The Ragin' Cajuns women's 4x100-meter relay team earned a second-place finish behind nationally-ranked LSU while Tamela Young and Amie Leitko each posted third-place finishes in their respective events during the two-day meet that featured 13 teams.
"Overall, we had some really great things happen for us this weekend, but we missed the consistency, but that is part of the early season," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "Part of that is not having the full team out there (right now) … we'll know a little bit more when we get to (the) Florida (Relays)."
Limoh and Robinson fueled a 1-2 finish for Louisiana in the men's 5,000-meter run as Limoh crossed the finish line in 15:01.39 (second-fastest in the Sun Belt Conference) with Robinson, the school-record holder, finishing in 15:12.86 (third-fastest). Bryce Robinson added a ninth-place finish for the Ragin' Cajuns after he crossed the finish line in 16:50.49.
Beau Robinson opened up the day for the Ragin' Cajuns by claiming the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:30.42. Louisiana claimed four of the top five spots in the event as Jacob Chicola (9:49.96) was third, Dylan Heck (9:50.48) fourth and Regan Lemaire (10:18.42) fifth.
Rice clocked a personal-best time in the men's 800-meter run, finishing in 1:51.83 and behind LSU's Blair Henderson (1:47.58) and Jack Wilkes (1:50.75). Craig Rock (54.53) and Austin Ley (55.40) finished fourth and sixth, respectively, for Louisiana in the men's 400-meter hurdles with Cole Stafford finished seventh overall in the men's 1,500-meter run for Louisiana (4:13.04).
Heath claimed the men's high jump title for Louisiana, clearing the bar at 6-9 ¾ to post the best mark in the Sun Belt Conference this season with freshman Damon Guidry finishing third overall (6-6 ¾). Louisiana's Matt Wilson earned a second-place finish in the men's pole vault (15-11 ¼) and Spencer Nezat was sixth in the shot put (47-11 ¾).
Nezat added a 10th-place finish in the discus for the Ragin' Cajuns, recording a toss of 118-1 and following Richard Delphin, who finished seventh (151-6).
Louisiana earned a pair of top-3 finishes during the women's relays as the Ragin' Cajuns clocked a time of 46.51 to finish second in the 4x100-meters before finishing third (3:53.15) in the 4x400-meters.
Young nearly matched her personal-best (47-2 ¼) in the shot put set in 2015 by posting a throw of 47-1 ½ on her final attempt to finish third overall. Leitko, competing in the women's discus, recorded a mark of 139-3 to finish third overall before finishing seventh in the hammer throw with a personal-best at 158-1.
Lindsay Harmon finished fifth overall in the women's high jump for the Ragin' Cajuns (5-3 ¾) with Taylor Walker finishing fourth (39-1 ¼) and Lindsay Darby (37-1 ¼) sixth in the triple jump. Walker added a seventh-place finish for Louisiana in the women's long jump (17-9) while teammate Cydney Moreau earned a ninth-place performance (a season-best 16-7 ¼).
Kayla Thompson earned a pair of top-10 overall finishes for Louisiana, earning a fifth-place performance in the women's 100-meter dash (12.13) and seventh in the 200-meter dash (25.11). Freshman Erica Stewart earned a seventh-place finish for Louisiana in the 100-meters (12.19) with Kiera Mills finishing 10th (12.34).
Lindsay LaGarde earned a fourth-place finish in the women's 5,000-meter run for Louisiana, finishing in 17:59.57 with Courtney Broussard finishing ninth (19:32.16). Broussard added a sixth-place finish in the women's 1,500-meter run (4:51.76) for Louisiana with Hailey Hesterman seventh (5:01.30).
Louisiana will return to action when it travels to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the Florida Relays from March 30-April 1.
