Â
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team continues its 2017 spring slate as the squad tees off at the Lone Star Invitational staring Monday at the par-72, 7,247-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Course.
Â
Play gets underway at 8:30 a.m. on Monday with a shotgun start. 36 holes are scheduled for the first day as the second round will follow immediately after the completion of the first round. The final round is slated to start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Â
"It's always nice to come to San Antonio and compete in the Lone Star Invitational," head coach Theo Sliman said. "We have a group of former players and alumni that always comes out and supports the team and certainly means a lot to us."
Â
Host UTSA is joined by Bowling Green, Cincinnati, No. 7 Illinois, Little Rock, Louisiana, McNeese, Mississippi State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, No. 15 Oklahoma, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas State and UTEP in the 15-team field.
Â
For the first time, the Ragin' Cajuns will play as a fivesome at the Lone Star Invitational as Fernando Cruz Valle, Thomas Strandemo, Ragnar Gardarrson, Aron Juliusson and Triston Elston will be paired together.
Â
"Briggs Ranch is a phenomenal golf course and a tremendous test, Sliman said. "This week will be different than normal with all fifteen teams playing in fivesomes and playing with all five players in the same group. We are excited with the format and greatly look forward to the opportunity ahead the next few days. This is a strong field and we will need to compete with high intensity and purpose as we are molding ourselves for the Sunbelt Championship."
Â
Cruz Valle has two top 5 finishes under his belt this spring and leads the team with a 73.00 scoring average. Juliusson is second on the squad with a 73.90 average and has notched two top 10 performances in his freshman campaign.
