Ragin' Cajuns Resume SBC Play Against Texas State, A-State

Cajuns head to Jonesboro for pair of SBC matches
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team returns to Sun Belt Conference play when it faces Texas State and Arkansas State in a pair of matches beginning Saturday in Jonesboro, Ark.

Louisiana (5-7) will open play on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., against Texas State (4-8) before facing Arkansas State (1-12) on Sunday at 11 a.m. Both matches will be played at the A-State Tennis Complex.

The Ragin' Cajuns return to action for the first time after having their four-match win streak snapped on Tuesday against No. 43-ranked Tulane. Louisiana dropped a hard fought doubles points to the Green Wave before Tulane earned three victories in singles play to secure the win.

Alexandra Way and Abby Johnson each claimed the opening set in their matches against Tulane and have combined to win their last decisions. Johnson, who has won a team-high five matches this spring, has won her last four contests.

Way, the Ragin' Cajuns lone senior, has won her last three decisions for Louisiana at No. 1 singles while Carla Ortega has posted a 4-5 overall record in dual matches, including a 3-1 mark at No. 5 singles.

Ortega and Kelly Drew have been unbeaten in three matches at No. 2 doubles for Louisiana with Way and freshman Yasmine Ansari posting an identical 3-0 record at No. 3 doubles.

Texas State has dropped five of its last six matches heading into a match on Friday against No. 50-ranked ULM. Ana Perez has won a team-high eight matches in singles play for the Bobcats with Eva Dench and Alex Jones sporting a team-best 6-3 record in doubles play.

A-State has lost its last five matches since claiming a 4-3 win at UAB on Feb. 26. The Red Wolves are led by Julie Gauguery, who has won her last four matches and is 10-2 overall at No. 1 singles.
