Cajuns Heading To Gainesville For Pepsi Florida Relays

Three-day meet begins Thursday

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team returns to action beginning Thursday when it travels to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays at Percy Beard Track, located inside James G. Pressly Stadium on the University of Florida campus.
 
Competition begins on Thursday at 1 p.m. CDT before resuming at 8:30 a.m. CDT on Friday. The final day of competition in one of the nation's premier collegiate and high school track meets is slated to begin at 8 a.m. CDT.

Louisiana returns to action for the first time since hosting the annual Louisiana Classics on March 17-18. Stanley Limoh, Beau Robinson and Dionte Heath each recorded first-place finishes in their respective events while Matt Rice posted the then fastest time among Sun Belt Conference athletes in the men's 800-meter run.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns women's 4x100-meter relay team earned a second-place finish behind nationally-ranked LSU while Tamela Young and Amie Leitko each posted third-place finishes in their respective events during the two-day meet that featured 13 teams.
 
Bartul Basic, who has the top mark in the men's javelin among Sun Belt Conference athletes, is ranked 13th nationally after posting a throw of 227-11 in the Ragin' Cajuns season opener at McNeese State on March 11. Hunter Stelly, ranked No. 2 in the SBC in the javelin, is ranked 43rd nationally for Louisiana with Heath ranked 28th in the country in the men's high jump and Robinson 41st in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
 
Women's pole vaulter Meredith Driskell enters the meet ranked 27th on the NCAA East Qualifying List (12-5 ½) with Young ranked 42nd in the shot put (47-1 ½) and Claire Meyers 46th in the javelin (139-11).
