Cajuns to host Penn in first of three straight against Ivy League
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The team of Jamie Fraser and Arthur Libaud helped clinch the doubles point for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team, but New Mexico State claimed singles matches at the top four spots to earn a 4-1 win in the third-place match at the 51st annual H-E-B Tournament of Champions on Saturday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
Pearse Dolan and Elio Lago posted a win at No. 3 doubles for Louisiana (11-6), which will play its next three matches against Ivy League schools beginning on Wednesday against visiting Penn.
Louisiana took an early 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point as Dolan and Lago opened with a 6-2 win over NM State's Enrique Asmar and Sergi Espias before Fraser and Libaud improved to 11-2 on the season with a 6-4 win over Mauri Benitez and Stijn de Haan.
The Aggies then rallied in singles play as Luis Flores picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Fraser at No. 2. Christofer Goncalves gave NM State a 2-1 lead with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win over Libaud before de Haan claimed a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Vlad Kramarov and Espias a 6-1, 6-4 win over Dolan at No. 4.
Louisiana will host Penn on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., before traveling to face Harvard (March 24) and Brown (March 25).
