Louisiana, Texas State To Face Off In Opening Round Of SBC Tennis Championships

Winner to face top-seeded ULM on Friday at 8 a.m.

NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team kicks off the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships on Thursday morning when it faces eighth-seeded Texas State at New Orleans' City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center.
 
First serve is scheduled for 8 a.m. Live results, courtesy of the Sun Belt Conference, and live radio coverage (RadioTennis.com) will be available at RaginCajuns.com. The winner between Louisiana (8-10), the No. 9 seed, and Texas State will advance to face top-seeded ULM on Friday at 8 a.m.
 
Louisiana returns to the court for the first time since April 7-8 when it fell to UTA and ULM in the regular-season finale in Arlington, Texas. The Ragin' Cajuns dropped a 4-1 decision to Texas State on March 25 in Jonesboro, Ark., and faces the Bobcats in the SBC Tournament for the second time in the past three seasons.
 
Carla Ortega has won a team-high 11 matches for Louisiana, with six wins coming in dual matches and joining senior Alexandra Way and junior Abby Johnson for team-high honors. Way, who has won a combined 65 matches in her career, has posted a 6-5 mark at No. 1 singles for Louisiana with Johnson posting a 5-3 record at No. 4.
