Cajuns Stunned By Texas State In Opening Round Of SBC Tournament

Way earns career win No. 67 with victories at singles, doubles
NEW ORLEANS – Alexandra Way and Lucile Delabarre each earned straight-set victories in singles play while the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns claimed the doubles point in building a 3-0 lead, but Texas State rallied to claim a 4-3 win in the opening round of the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championship at City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center.
Texas State (8-10), rallied to clinch the match with three straight three-set victories to advance to face top-seeded ULM on Friday at 8 a.m. Louisiana, the No. 9 seed in the field, ended its season at 8-11.
Louisiana took a 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point as Delabarre and Abby Johnson picked up a 6-3 win over Eva Dench and Alex Jones at No. 1 before Way and India Shiaelis claimed a 7-6 (7-4) win over Pippa Carr and Joy Chia Ming Ming at No. 3.
Way, who finished her career with a combined 67 wins in singles and doubles play, earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Dench at No. 1 singles to give Louisiana a 2-0 lead before Delabarre earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Eva Perez at No. 3.
Texas State mounted its comeback beginning on No. 5 as Ming Ming earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Shiaelis. Julia Navajo-Melendez added a 0-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Johnson at No. 4 before Carr earned a three-set 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win over Kelly Drew at No. 2.
Jones clinched the match for the Bobcats after she rallied for a 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win over Carla Ortega at No. 6.
