Three First-Place Performances Lead Ragin' Cajuns At LSU Alumni Gold

Meyers posts second-best mark in women's javelin this season
BATON ROUGE – Bartul Basic recorded a career-best in the men's javelin, posting a throw of 231 feet, 7 inches, while Taylor Walker and Hanoj Carter each turned in first-place performances to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team on Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold at Bernie Moore Stadium.
Lindsay LaGarde and Franz Bayer each recorded second-place finishes in their respective events for Louisiana with Claire Meyers setting a personal-best in the women's javelin.
Basic, who entered the meet as the top-ranked javelin thrower in the Sun Belt Conference, eclipsed his previous best (227-11) set last month at the McNeese Cowboy Relays. The junior posted his top throw on his second attempt of the day and moved to No. 8 on the NCAA East Qualifying List and No. 14 nationally.
Walker, who jumped a personal-best of 40-2 in the women's triple jump last week at the Beach Invitational, posted the top mark for the Ragin' Cajuns at 39-11 ½. The senior added a sixth-place performance in the long jump, posting a mark of 18-7 and narrowly missing her career-best (18-8) set last year at the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
Carter clocked a season-best 10.44 to tie for top honors in the 100-meter dash "B" section and one of two Ragin' Cajuns to finish in the top four with Jeryl Brazil clocking a time of 10.53 to finish fourth.
LaGarde, who clocked a time of 4:45.72 last week in the women's 1,500-meter run at the Beach Invitational, posted a time of 4:45.41 to finish second overall with Hailey Hesterman finishing 12th (5:02.82).
Beyer, competing in the B section of the men's 110-meter hurdles for Louisiana, posted a time of 14.72 to finish second. Stanley Limoh (3:53.42) and Matt Rice (3:56.27) finished third and fifth respectively for Louisiana in the men's A 1,500-meter run while Jacob Chicola (9:34.54), Dylan Heck (9:36.12) and Beau Robinson (9:38.01) finished fourth through sixth in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Freshman Damon Guidry earned a fourth-place showing in the men's high jump (6-8) for Louisiana while Kyle Baudoin (16-1 ¾) and Matt Wilson (16-1 ¾) finished fifth and eighth, respectively, in the men's pole vault and Richard Delphin (174-8) seventh in the men's hammer throw.
