Basic Earns SBC Weekly Track And Field Honors

Junior is ranked No. 8 on NCAA East Qualifying List and No. 14 nationally
NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field standout Bartul Basic was honored on Wednesday after being named the Sun Belt Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week in a release by the conference office.
Basic, from Split, Croatia, posted a personal-best throw of 231-7 to claim the men's javelin title last Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge. Basic, who entered the meet as the top-ranked javelin thrower in the Sun Belt Conference, eclipsed his previous best (227-11) set last month at the McNeese Cowboy Relays.
The junior posted his top throw on his second attempt of the day and moved to No. 8 on the NCAA East Qualifying List and No. 14 nationally.
Louisiana will compete in its final tuneup before next month's Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships when it travels to Natchitoches for the NSU Demon Invitational on Saturday (April 29).
