Cajuns and Tigers Meet for Spot in Championship Sunday

BATON ROUGE – 14th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball and No. 18 LSU meet in the winner's bracket final of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 at Tiger Park on the LSU campus.

LSU will be the home team for the contest and occupy the third base dugout. The winner advances to Championship Sunday while the loser will have to return to Tiger Park and face the McNeese-Fairfield winner in an elimination game at 5 p.m.

The Ragin' Cajuns-Tigers matchup can be heard on SportsRadio ESPN 1420-AM in the Acadiana Region and the RadioPup app worldwide. Live video will be provided by an ESPN3 broadcast that features play-by-play from Lyn Rollins and analysis from Yvette Girouard.

Louisiana (46-6) advanced in the winner's bracket of the Baton Rouge Regional with a 6-0 win over McNeese on Friday that was highlighted by a no-hitter from Alex Stewart. LSU (42-18) topped Fairfield 2-1 by plating two runs in the first inning and receiving a strong outing from freshman pitcher Sydney Smith who allowed just three hits.

Saturday's matchup marks the first meeting between the Ragin' Cajuns and Tigers since the 2013 Baton Rouge Regional. Louisiana claimed victories in the winner's bracket final and on Championship Sunday that year to advance to the Ann Arbor Super Regional.

The Ragin' Cajuns have won the past five NCAA Tournament meetings with LSU and hold a 6-4 edge over the Tigers in the event. This will be the 11th NCAA Tournament matchup between the two programs – the most-played opponent for Louisiana in the event.
