Carter Sprints To Finals Of 100-Meters; Stelly Finishes 30th In Javelin

Carter looks to qualify for Eugene in 100, opens prelims in 200

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sprinter Hanoj Carter qualified for finals in the men's 100-meters after posting the eighth-best time in preliminaries while Hunter Stelly finished 30th overall in the men's javelin to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary meet on Thursday at the UK Track and Field Complex.
 
Carter, who clocked a time of 10.24 seconds, finished second in his heat trailing Tennessee's Christian Coleman (9.96) – the top-ranked 100-meter NCAA athlete in the country. Carter, who will look to qualify for the men's 200-meter dash that is slated for Friday at 6:55 p.m. CT, advanced to Friday's 100-meter final that is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
 
Stelly, making his debut in the NCAA East Regional, recorded a throw of 192 feet, 2 inches to finish fourth overall in his flight and 30th in the 48-man field.
 
Ricky Theyard, the Sun Belt Conference champion in the men's triple jump, will begin competition on Saturday at 2 p.m. CDT with Sun Belt Conference high jump champion Dionte Heath and freshman Damon Guidry scheduled to compete at 5 p.m.
