Cajuns to host first-round game versus Privateers on Nov. 10, 2017
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team will host a first-round game in the 2017 Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament as the official tournament bracket was released by officials.
Â
Louisiana will host New Orleans in the first round on Nov. 10 in a 7 p.m. contest at the Cajundome. Round two is slated for Nov. 12-14 with the semifinals set for Nov. 16. The Preseason WNIT championship game is scheduled for Nov. 16 and will televised live on the CBS Sports Network at 2 p.m. CT.
Â
ESPN's early rankings have three Preseason WNIT teams in the Top 25. Louisville comes in as the highest-ranked team at No. 10, Oregon solidified No. 13 and the 2016 Postseason WNIT champion Michigan arrives at No. 21.
Â
The tournament features a three-game guarantee. If a team loses in the championship bracket before it has played three games, it will play in the consolation bracket.
Â
CSUN, Houston and New Orleans are gearing up for their first time in the Preseason WNIT. Boasting their second selection into the tournament are Drake, Louisiana, Michigan, Milwaukee, Old Dominion, Southeast Missouri and Texas A&M. George Mason, 2013 champions Louisville, Oregon and Saint Francis (PA) are all making their third appearances. Toledo embarks on their fourth journey through the bracket and Liberty is making a tournament-high fifth appearance in the Preseason WNIT.
Â
In the 2016 Preseason WNIT, Preseason No. 1 Notre Dame defeated 17th-ranked Washington, 71-60, to claim its second preseason tournament championship. Both teams later advanced to the NCAA Tournament; the Fighting Irish reached the Elite Eight and the Huskies made it to the Sweet 16.
