Fresno native averaged double-double as a senior

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball coach Bob Marlin announced on Friday the addition of California high school product Elijah McCoy (Fresno, Calif.) to a grant-in-aid for the 2017-18 season.

McCoy, a 6-foot-9, 235-pound forward, averaged 16.7 points, 13.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks as a senior at Roosevelt High School. He helped the Rough Riders to a second-round appearance in the 2017 Central Section Division III playoffs and was a first-team All-North Yosemite League selection.

"Elijah is someone who will add height as a post presence for us in the future," Marlin said. "He has made great strides during the past two years and is someone who hasn't reached his ceiling."

McCoy joins former Peabody Magnet product Cedric Russell as signees for the 2017-18 season. Louisiana, a member of the Sun Belt Conference, posted a 21-12 record last season and return four starters, 10 letterwinners plus three Division I transfers – JaKeenan Gant (Missouri), Marcus Stroman (South Carolina) and Malik Marquetti (USC).
