Hudspeth, coordinators address media

LAFAYETTE - Head coach Mark Hudspeth, offensive coordinator Will Hall, defensive coordinator Mike Lucas and selected members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team met with the media on Tuesday during its annual Media Day on Tuesday at the Student-Athlete Performance Center.

The Ragin' Cajuns opened the day with a two-hour workout in shells at the Ragin' Cajuns Practice Facility. Louisiana continued its installation of its offensive and defensive packages during team drills while focusing the early part of the 19-period workout on individual drills.

Louisiana will return to practice on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. before working out in full gear for the first time on Thursday. The Ragin' Cajuns will conduct three scrimmages during fall camp with full scrimmages set for Aug. 12 and Aug. 19. All practices and scrimmages are open to RCAF and Quarterback Club members at the $1,000 level or above.

MEDIA DAY PRESS CONFERENCE (head coach Mark Hudspeth, defensive coordinator Mike Lucas, offensive coordinator Will Hall)

SELECTED MEDIA DAY QUOTES
Travis Crawford (Sr., DB, New Orleans, La.)
On Getting Senior Year Started

"I'm definitely excited to get the year started.  It's been a long and fun ride.  We were watching film earlier and I couldn't believe that the game was three years ago, since it feels like it was just last month, it's just crazy how fast the time goes by."

On the Experienced Secondary
"It's important since it takes pressure off the linebackers.  We've got some new linebackers, but I know that they'll get it done.  We've got a good secondary and good defensive line and those are two things that go hand in hand."

On Goals for the Season
"My personal goals are to go All-American and All-Conference, some people might not think that I can but I set goals for myself that are pretty high.  As for the team, we're trying to win all of our home games and we're trying to get to a bowl game and win that game."

Grant Horst (Sr., OL, Spanish Fort, Ala.)
On Getting Senior Year Started

"It's been a grind these past four years, coach Hudspeth has a tough program and you've got to be tough to make it.  Throughout my four years here I've learned a lot about life and how to handle things."

On Experienced Offensive Line
"Having an experienced line is going to help as a lot as far as communication goes.  We're all on the same page and that's going to help us protect the quarterback and run the ball this season."

Goals for the Season
"Our goals are to win every home game, since we've only got five this year.  We need to win every home game this year along with taking the Sun Belt Conference championship."

Jordan Davis (Jr., QB, Spring, Texas)
On Entering the Season as the Starting Quarterback

"My main goal and focus is to be productive and lead the offense in the most positive way I can.  And that's done by stringing consistent days together.  Something I've done during the summer is really work with the receivers and running backs to get our timing down so that when we get to camp we've already got that bond and relationship going forward."

On Working with a New Offensive Coordinator
"This is my third time with a new offensive coordinator, but I'm really excited.  In the spring and through the summer we worked on the offense so entering camp we're all fresh on it.  These first couple of installs and going deeper we might still need to work on it. But I'm really excited about the new offense.  It's really good to highlight the skill players and allow them to get outside and makes plays for us."
