Louisiana and Tulane will kick off the 2017 season with a doubleheader on Friday; match times set for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team will now open the 2017 season at home after the team's scheduled trip to the I-10 Cardinals Classic in San Antonio was canceled by impending inclement weather associated with Hurricane Harvey.
Â
Louisiana and Tulane will play a doubleheader at Earl K. Long Gym on Friday, Aug. 25 to kick off the 2017 campaign. First serve for the matches is set for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Â
Admission for both matches is free.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns and Green Wave were originally scheduled to begin their respective seasons playing three matches in the I-10 Cardinals Classic on the campus of Incarnate Word Friday-Saturday, Aug. 25-26. UIW canceled all athletic events on its campus this weekend in the best interest of the student-athletes and staff.
Â
Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot enters her 10th season as head volleyball coach at Louisiana. The Ragin' Cajuns return 13 players from the 2016 squad highlighted by preseason All-Sun Belt selections Jessica Bartczyszyn and Stacey Reilly. A talented group of eight newcomers, which features Lafayette-area standouts Avery Breaux (St. Thomas More HS) and Lexi Hebert (Teurlings Catholic HS), complete the roster.
