LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's cross country team officially opens the 2017 on Friday when it travels to New Orleans to compete in the the New Orleans Invitational at Lake Oaks Park.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m., with the women's five-kilometer race followed by the men's 5K race at 6 p.m. Joining Louisiana and host UNO in the five-team meet are Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana and Southern.

Four seniors - Courtney Broussard, Claire Hodges, Lindsay LaGarde and Courtney Musgrove - will lead the Ragin' Cajuns women's team that fought through injuries in 2016. Musgrove paced Louisiana last season, earning third-team All-SBC honors and being named to the All-Louisiana squad. Hodges, the 2013 LSWA co-Freshman of the Year, returns for her final season as a Ragin' Cajun after missing the majority of the 2016 campaign with an injury.
