Cajuns Golf Opens Season At Sam Hall Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team got off to a slow start to open the 2017-18 season finishing the first day of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in 11th place with a two-round score of 28-over par (596) on Monday at the par-71, 6,902-yard Hattiesburg Country Club.

"Pretty disappointing day and opening of our fall season," head coach Theo Sliman said. "No question the course and conditions played tough yet no excuse for us not bettering ourselves in the afternoon. We had four guys debut as Division I golfers, and it is obvious that we are in need of improvement. I fully expect this group to apply the lessons of today to tomorrow's round with resilience and determination."

Host Southern Miss leads the field with a 36-hole score of 4-under (564), while Matt Codd sits atop the individual leaderboard at 3-under (139).

Four Ragin' Cajuns made their debut at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate with Bjorn Gudjonsson, Colin Troxler, Peter Hinnant and Cole Kenrick donning the vermilion and white for the first time.

Elston Bounces Back

Junior Triston Elston bounced back from a morning round of 75 (+4) to card a round of 71 (E) in the afternoon to move up 13 spots into a tie for 29th overall. Elston had just one blemish in his final 10 holes while posting two birdies.

Final Round Pairings

The Ragin' Cajuns are paired with Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans for the final round. Play gets underway at 8 a.m. with teams teeing off of holes one and ten. Louisiana will start off of hole 10 at 8:27 a.m. Live scoring for the final round is available on Golfstat.com.
