9/14/2017 9:27:00 AM | Soccer
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's women's soccer team kicks off their Sun Belt Conference play on the road this weekend with two matches in Arkansas. On Friday, Sept. 15, with the match starting at 4:00 p.m., the Cajuns travel to Jonesboro, Ark. to take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves and they'll wrap up their weekend on Sunday, Sept. 17 with a visit to Little Rock, Ark. to take on the Little Rock Trojans and that match starts at 1:00 p.m.
          Â
For the first time since 2015 the Cajuns start conference play with a pair of road matches, and for the first time since the weekend of Sept. 30-Oct. 2, 2005, the Cajuns open conference play in Arkansas taking on that state's pair of schools.
          Â
The Cajuns are coming off a weekend where they split their final two non-conference matches.Â
          Â
A trip to Huntsville, Texas on Friday, Sept. 8, produced a close loss to the Sam Houston State Bearkats, 2-1. But they returned home on Sunday, Sept. 10, and took out their frustrations on Nicholls scoring five goals en route to a 5-1 demolishing of the Colonels.
          Â
Louisiana's weekend was highlighted by their five-goal performance and senior Haley Boroch recorded a brace, for the second time in her career the last time being on Aug. 21, 2016 a 10-0 win over Alcorn State, to help lead the Cajuns to victory.
          Â
Seniors Rebecca Foley and Kimberly Grasso added to the mix as well, and the goal for Foley was the first of her career. While junior Emily Emanis wrapped up the Cajuns scoring late in the match with her own first career goal.
          Â
The Cajuns sit fourth in the conference standings entering the first weekend of conference play, but a solid weekend would move the Cajuns up the ladder since sitting in front of them at two and three are the two Arkansas schools.
          Â
Arkansas State heads into the weekend ridding a three-match winning streak, but the Red Wolves haven't seen any action since Friday, Sept. 8 when they beat UT Martin 2-0. All-time the Cajuns hold an advantage over the Red Wolves with a 10-8-0 record between the two schools.
          Â
While the Cajuns dropped last season's meeting between the two schools, 1-0 on Oct. 7, 2016, the last time the two schools met in Jonesboro, the Cajuns took the match 1-0 on Oct. 9, 2015.
           Â
When the Cajuns get to Little Rock on Sunday, they'll face a Trojans team that they hold a 11-5-1 overall record against, and the two schools drew 1-1 the last time they met in Little Rock on Oct. 11, 2015.
          Â
The Trojans will enter the match having not played a match on Friday, but they did win their last match against UAPB, 3-0, this past Tuesday, Sept. 12. Louisiana will be looking for a bit of revenge since they lost the previous meeting between the two schools last season in Lafayette 1-0, on Sept. 18, 2016.
          Â
Friday's match against Arkansas State will be broadcast on ESPN3 and the link to watch the match is available on the RaginCajuns.com soccer schedule page. Along with the ESPN3 broadcast live stats will also be available courtesy of Arkansas State.
